From July 25 to August 9, the Ottawa Chamber Music Society will present the 15th anniversary edition of its world-renowned International Chamber Music Festival. Recognized as one of Canada’s most important cultural events, Chamberfest ’08 will feature over 120 concerts and more than 250 internationally acclaimed musicians. The 15th anniversary of Chamberfest is cause for extra celebration! Festival-goers will be in store for a fantastic summer of innovative and exciting programming by the 2008 programming team, the Gryphon Trio. Young People’s Concerts return to the festival line-up, as do the ever-popular free concerts on the grounds of Rideau Hall and the NCC’s Noon Under the Bridge series. Passes are $95 CAD (adult) or $45 CAD (student) and permit listeners to attend most of the concerts. This year’s headliners include such stars as Isabel Bayrakdarian, Louie Lortie, Keller Quartett, Gryphon Trio, Shanghai Quartet, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and Quartetto Gelato, to name but a few. For the first time, the OCMS will provide musicians and audiences with a central hub to gather, mingle and listen to festival artists as they perform pieces from the hidden corners of their repertoire. The Montgomery branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, 355 Kent Street, will be transformed into an intimate after-hours club that will open at 9:30 pm each evening. Admittance is free with a festival pass or single concert ticket from the day, or $5 at the door. For more information, call 613-234-8008 or visit www.chamberfest.com for the online schedule.
