For the longest time, as a regular contributor to Ottawa Life, I have wanted to take readers on a journey in our city, visiting places and events, some mainstream, some not so much, that they might not otherwise know or hear about in their day-to-day life. However, the nature of the magazine meant that anything I would write about would have been long over by the time our hard copy hit news-stands. Thanks to this blog, now I can cover those events. You will find news from the arts and theatre scene in the Capital, movie reviews with a twist, news about eclectic events (for example check out the kink conference taking place this weekend details below). I will also introduce you to some of the captivating characters who live in our fabulous city. Take Elorious Cain for example. Did you know that Ottawa is home to the longest running disco show in North America (it plays every Saturday on CKCU 93. at 1 p.m.)? Cain is the eclectic and effervescent DJ who has trained some of the world’s most renowned DJs but who himself thankfully refuses to take his groove away from the Capital.
You will meet some of the characters who are keeping us in good health, such as Ottawa’s chiropractor to the stars who keeps our Ottawa Senators’ in tip top shape. You will meet people with super cool jobs or people who do extraordinary things. Ottawa has scientists tracking seismic activity. Given last year’s earthquake, I find information like that pretty reassuring. You will also meet some of the unsung heroes you pass by every day.
But given summer in the Capital seems to finally have blossomed, I want to focus my first blog entry on festival season. Here are a few cool events taking place in the coming days. In fact, there is a ton of stuff going on this weekend alone.
