The War of the Worlds: A Live Radio Play will be performed at The Gladstone from October 30 to November 2. Plus! Special Hallowe’en Late-Night Performance: October 31 at 10:00 pm.
On October 30, 1938, theatrical boy wonder Orson Welles sent America into a panic with his radio drama adaptation of H.G. Wells’ science-fiction novel The War of the Worlds, presented in the form of a series of news bulletins, which many listeners mistook for breaking news of an alien invasion. Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the infamous broadcast this Halloween, when Wells’ story and Welles’ words get the trademark Gladstone Radio Show staging, with live music and on-stage foley that bring you back to the 1938 radio studio where the legend was born.
Featured among this year’s cast are two well-known local broadcasters – CBC Radio’s Laurence Wall and CBC TV’s David Gerow – as well as Gladstone Radio Show veterans Michelle Leblanc, David Holton and Zach Counsil (as Orson Welles). The War of the Worlds: A Live Radio Play is adapted for the stage and directed by Teri Loretto-Valentik.
Tickets: Adult: $34 / Senior (65+) $30 / Student-Artist-Unwaged $20 / Preview (all) $18
