As the temperature continues to drastically drop in Ottawa, there are very few things better than cozying up by a fireplace or under blankets … lots and lots of blankets. This week’s drink is the perfect complement for either of those activities as well as anything else you can do to stay warm this winter.
Using Appleton Estate Reserve this Hot Buttered Rum is great for sharing or for sipping solo on any chilly night -and there promises to be a fair few this season. The cocktail base may look slightly intimidating but many of the ingredients are things most likely already in your cabinets. What is unique about this drink is the sweetness that makes it all the more comforting and enjoyable. It’s a great way to make this cold weather a little more bearable!
RESERVE JAMAICAN HOT BUTTERED RUM
GARNISH: Cinnamon Stick
Ingredients: (large batch for cocktail base)
1 lb brown sugar
½ lb butter
½ oz. fresh extracted ginger juice
½ tsp. nutmeg
½ ssp. allspice
4 oz apple cider
pinch of salt
Use above base for the following:
Individual Cocktail Recipe:
2 heaping tbsp. of the above cocktail base
2 oz. Appleton Estate Reserve
6 oz. (approx.) hot water
Blend the above ingredients and bring to a boil before removing from the heat. Then leave alone to cool and store in refrigerator.
