Reading List
Father’s Day is a chance to kick back and do what Dad wants to do–even if that means grabbing a good book to read. Support a local author by picking up “Ottawa Stories: Trials and Triumphs in Bytown History” by Clifford Scott. “Ottawa Stories” is a collection of historical vignettes that will take you on a journey through Ottawa as it once was to where it stands now. From the devastation of fires and diseases to the largest ice rink in the world, Ottawa has beautiful stories to share.

Ask The Experts (Our Dads!)

Still feeling unsure of what to get Dad? Sometimes it’s best to just go straight to the source! We collected some ideas of what our fathers like and prefer on their day of celebration (June 15th)–besides our love and affection of course!– by, you know, asking.

Caleigh:
“When I asked my dad what he would like for Father’s Day, he said that he is ‘too old to need material things.’ All he wants is to spend time with family but take it from me, a heartfelt or even home-made card can go a long way!”

Alexa:
“I asked my dad what he wanted for Father’s Day and he said a big screen TV or a new car… Go big or go home, I guess! But he said dinner and time spent with the family would be nice too.”

Pilar:
“Other than his daughter’s love and appreciation, my dad would pick the novel ‘Ottawa Stories’ which reflects the history of Ottawa. Most of the stories were written by Mr. Scott who has been a resident of Ottawa since 1954 and was a former history lecturer at the University of Ottawa. It is evident that he has incredible knowledge of the city’s capital and has seen how much Ottawa has changed, improved, and grown over the course of his eventful life.”

Marie:
“I’m interpreting my dad’s answer as a dream gift because he wants my brother and I to paint his house while he sits back and polishes his car. Nice try dad!”
