Adventure Canada Donates $15,000 To Inuit Film Initiative

The adventure company pledges continued support in the New Year to help make Inuit stories accessible to all Canadians Adventure Canada has once again pledged support of the Unikkausivut project – a film series showcasing compassionate tales from Canada’s northern communities. Adventure Canada has been an active advocate of this project since its launch in 2011. To date, the company has donated at least $15,000 to the project and Adventure Canada passengers an additional $10,000. Travellers sailing with Adventure Canada in 2014 who donate $100 or more will receive an exclusive DVD with a selection of films from Unikkausivut: Sharing Our Stories.
The Unikkausivut project’s next film will focus on the Nunatsiavut region of Northern Labrador. In 2014, Adventure Canada will undertake two voyages to explore this culturally rich area – Newfoundland and Wild Labrador from June 29-July 12, and Greenland and Wild Labrador from September 11-24. Both sailings feature chances of seeing polar bears, whales, towering icebergs and dramatic fiords plunging deep into the ocean. The voyages will also serve as an opportunity to meet proud people who personify resilience. The project is being done in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada, the Inuit Relations Secretariat of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and the Government of Nunavut, Department of Education. Together and with the help of much-needed contributions, Unikkausivut will make Inuit stories accessible to all Canadians. The Unikkausivut project was first launched in 2011 with the release of a DVD box set, a compilation of 24 films, from the four Inuit regions of Canada. The project also gives the public free access to more than 40 Inuit films online at www.NFB.ca/unikkausivut. With continued support, the compilation will be available across Canadian libraries and schools for free, in French and English. For 2014 programs and general information, visit www.adventurecanada.com or call 1.800.363.7566.Iqaluit - Sylvia Brunnel Inukshuk
