Arthaus – Ottawa’s Uber-Cool Condo Project

The condo building topping off the future Ottawa Art Gallery and Groupe Germain hotel will be named ‘Arthaus,’ the building’s developers announced October 2.

The new structure will stand just beside the old arts court, on the corner of Daly Avenue and Waller Street, and should offer nearly 100 condos beginning at the glass tower’s 15th floor. The developers are Quebec company DevMcGill, and this project, set to be finished for 2017, represents their first residential foray outside of Montreal.

Côté says that having the gallery downstairs and the ByWard market steps away should attract “young professionals, urban couples and empty nesters.”

Another selling point is that the gallery will connect to the historic Arts Court building, which dates back to 1871 and hosts plenty of art, film and music festivals year after year.

Although the area may be historic, DevMcGill was aiming for a cutting-edge feel when designing the condos.

“(The suites) feature ultra-modern architecture of sleek, clean and minimalist lines along with the finest features and finishes,” Côté says.

The gallery itself will have five floors and more than six times the old OAG’s floor space. Add in the arts court and an adjacent 64,000 square foot theatre run by the University of Ottawa, and Arthaus is suddenly sitting on almost an entire city block dedicated to local and international art.

Arthaus is set to be finished before Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017, you can find out more about the new development at arthauscondos.com.
