Documentary Screening: Walking the Camino

Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago, the extraordinary award-winning documentary by director and producer Lydia B. Smith, is here at Ottawa’s Mayfair Theatre and ByTowne Cinema for a limited run.

This cinematic masterpiece captures the trials and tribulations of a group of modern pilgrims who challenge themselves to trek the ancient path of northern Spain: the 500-mile long Camino de Santiago.

misa william rioja long1The film takes an in-depth look at a diverse group of people who completed the journey—each with their own reasons, motivations and expectations. Equipped with only a backpack, a pair of boots and an open mind, the physical and emotional journey that this group of individuals takes is moving, inspiring and poignantly captured on film.

But the Camino itself is the true star of the film. It is showcased with elegant cinematography depicting the gorgeous scenery and breathtaking vistas, from the raindrops on leaves to the fields of grass, mist covered mountains, colourful sunsets and historic surroundings.

Having made its way onto the list of top ten documentaries of 2014, this critically acclaimed film is a must-see during its stop here in Ottawa from September 24- 30.
