Homes for Woofs! Custom Doghouse Auction

A pinewood frame, an herb garden, and a roof garden are just a few of the features on these custom doghouses available for auction June 12 at the Homes for Woofs fundraiser.

For the benefit of the Ottawa Humane Society, at least 12 doghouses will be available for auction, including this ultra-modern design from Ardington and Associates Design Inc. (shown above).

“We are using a similar approach to the design and construction process of our doghouse as a custom home (with a very overt and animated client!). The house will have a pressure treated base to resist decay, walls will be insulated with 1.5” rigid insulation, roof will be waterproofed with a planter on top acting as a ‘green roof’ for those with limited space in their yard looking to maximize every square inch. The majority of the materials we are using will be renewable, and have been using salvaged materials from job sites when possible,” said Steve Ardington, of Ardington and Associates Design Inc.

If you are jealous that your new doghouse outshines your actual home, you can also bid on a consultation with internationally known interior designer Meredith Heron, valued at  $1,200. Other items up for grabs include a spa gift basket and a pet supplies gift basket.

On hand to help you make an informed decision about bidding on the right doghouse will be Mayor Jim Watson, Damon Bennett (formally of Holmes on Homes), and Ottawa CTV personality Leanne Cusack, who will all be among the celebrity judges panel.

Home for Woofs! was created by realtor Peggy Blair and is sponsored by her employer Royal LePage Team Realty. Many other volunteers played a large roll in making Home for Woofs! a reality, like Kitchissippi city councilor Katherine Hobbs, who donated the space for the event, as well as Minto Homes and other local contractors and architecture firms who are building doghouses to donate to the event.
