In search of Style

If there’s one key piece of clothing to update in your 2014 wardrobe, it’s the skirt. From A-line and pencil to trumpet and fit and flare, there’s a skirt silhouette to flatter every figure. Take your pick and pair it with a sweater or cardigan for a stylish alternative to the basic blazer. When choosing your skirt, try a bold-printed pencil skirt or say it with pleats in midi and mini styles or, better yet, go for leather. Don’t forget footwear. Keep a pair of fancy flats or heels under your desk so you can switch out of your winter boots to complete the look.

Designers were feeling the winter blues in a big way. From coats and sweaters to shoes and handbags, watch for eye-catching cobalt to come on strong, breaking up muted fall colour palettes with a punch of saturated colour. Get on trend by swapping out your black gloves for a pair of striking blue gloves. Bold colours appeared on the spring/summer 2014 runway at Ralph Lauren with bright, almost fluorescent hues. Statement colour gowns and statement separates will merge into warmer months so strike while the iron is hot and splurge on a colour-coded statement piece.

askalexcollage3What I’m loving right now: Leggings
I never thought I’d say it, but I wear leggings. Not just any leggings, but full leather leggings or paneled leather leggings. Luxe leather was spotted on the Rag and Bone runway and celebrities such as Olivia Palermo, Victoria Beckham and Miranda Kerr have been seen wearing them with biker boots and oversized knitwear or with pumps and a blazer or shirt for a more elegant look. Just remember, opt for a shirt or sweater than falls below your derrière.
