Ottawa Remembers

Pin on your poppy this weekend as Canadians gather from coast to coast in commemoration of those who gave their lives in service of our country. While the gathering at the National War Memorial attracts the largest of crowds, many areas across the city will be hosting other ceremonies and gatherings.

Here are some of the ways you can stand for the fallen tomorrow:

National War Memorial (7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
The always emotional gathering will include the parade of veterans, fighter jet flyover, moment of silence as well as wreath laying.

Westboro (1:30 p.m.)
The Royal Canadian Legion will begin their march towards the Westboro Cenotaph for  a ceremonial service beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Virtual Poppy Drop (6 p.m. / 9 p.m.)
The Centre Block on the Hill including the Peace Tower will be alight with virtual falling poppies, one for each of the 117,000 who have fallen.

Vanier (1:30 p.m.)
The Legion’s Eastview Branch plans to parade on Cyr Avenue and Montreal road heading towards the Vanier Cenotaph.

The Price of Victory – Money During Time of War
Drop into the Bank of Canada Museum after the National Remembrance Day Ceremony and continue your day of remembrance. Join Chief Curator Paul Berry for a guided tour about money in wartime. English Tour: 13:00 French Tour: 14:00 FREE ADMISSION

Beechwood Cemetery (10:30 a.m.)
Gather together with military members and their families at the
National Military Cemetary.

Vimy – 100 Years
This exhibition at the Canadian War Museum focuses on the
memory of Vimy Ridge and its impact over the centenary after
the battle.

Orléans (10:30 a.m)
The Legion will begin their march on Vimont Court ending at the
Orléans Cenotaph.

Stittsville (1:45 p.m.)
The Sittsville branch of the Legion will march on Main Street
and then head westward on Warner-Colpitts Lane before
arriving at the cenotaph.

The World Remembers
Marking the memory of the 680,000 killed in 1917, names
and images will be projected on the side of the Government
Conference Centre. Starts at sunset.
