Ottawa's first ever outdoor Christmas Market coming to ByWard Market

Toronto, Victoria, Paris, New York City...And now Ottawa! Our nation's capital is following suit to these other highly-populated, culture-infused city centers in launching our very own Christmas Market!

Hosted by Alpha Art Gallery, with support from the ByWard Market, the National Capital Commission, and Mayor Jim Watson, the Ottawa Christmas Market's grand opening will take place in Clarendon Court on December 5th from 12:00pm to 9:00pm. The market will run until December 9th from noon to 6:00pm.

Led by Alpha Art Gallery owner Edith Betkowski-Sokolowski, this exciting initiative is the brainchild of a dynamic group of local artisans and ByWard Market restaurants, stores and business owners. An incredible amount of local sponsors have been working together to make this community effort a great success not only in it's inaugural year, but for many years to come.

"Now, the people of Ottawa-Gatineau will be able to enjoy the timeless Christmas tradition at home without having to travel to Toronto, Montreal, New York City, Chicago, or Paris," says Betkowski-Sokolowski.

Guests can expect to see over 20 local vendors offering crafts, toys, souvenirs, candles, ornaments and a variety of warm food and beverage options! Prepared to be entertained as artists, children's choirs and carollers take the stage to deliver non-stop live performances. Chairs, blankets and heaters will be provided for spectators.

Rediscover the magic of Christmas with a horse and carriage ride, a look inside Santa's sleigh, and a mailbox where kids can drop off their letters to Santa.

Several large Christmas trees will line the patios in Clarendon Court, but none will compare to the main tree which will be beautifully lit and decorated for all to admire!

The market's grand opening will take place on the same day as the lighting ceremony of the Official Illumination of Parliament Hill which takes place at 7:00pm. The public are invited to visit the market either before or after the ceremony.

Don't miss the chance to see Clarendon Court completely transformed by pure holiday magic!

Please Note: Alpha Art Gallery is accepting donations of pine garlands, ornaments, lights and anything that can add to the magic of the Christmas Market. They are also seeking volunteers of all ages to help decorate vendor huts and the courtyard.

I'd like to be a volunteer for this wonderful Christmas Market. I have time every weekend.
