Hello lovebirds! Don’t be blindsided by Valentine’s Day this week. Here at Ottawa Life, we narrowed down some great events for you to spend with those you love, or maybe just like. Get ready for music, theater, crafts, comedy, music and plenty of outdoor time. See you there!

Winterlude, City Wide
If you haven’t noticed Winterlude is in full swing. Until February 20th, there will be plenty of ways to join in the festivities no matter your age or interest.  With too many to list we recommend checking their website for all the event postings. There really is something for everyone, so get out there already!

Jim Gaffigan,  Canadian Tire Centre, February 10
Just For Laughs is thrilled to announce Jim Gaffigan, the Grammy-nominated comedian. New York Times bestselling author, top touring performer and multi-platinum selling father of five will perform in Ottawa as part of his North American tour, Jim Gaffigan: Fully Dressed. The show starts at 8pm at the Canadian Tire Centre and tickets start at $86.

Casablanca Live!, NAC, February 10-11
“Here’s looking at you, kid.” Could there be a more iconic line in American cinematic history? Starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Gergman and Paul Henreid, Casablanca is a classic romantic drama. Experience the Oscar-winning film like never before – on the big screen in Southam Hall, and accompanied by a live performance of Max Steiner’s lush score from the NAC Orchestra. Come and rediscover why Leonard Maitin considers the film to be the “best Hollywood movie of all time. Showtime is at 8pm Friday and Saturday and tickets start at $25.

Crackup Snowmania Challenge, Landsdowne, February 11
This Saturday you can take part in the Alterna Savings Cackup Snowmania Challenge as they take on the Guinness World Record of snowmen built at once. Last year they topped 2000 so in 2017 the aim is to melt those records by building 3,000 snowmen! You can register as a team or individual. The building is taking place on the TD Place Field and the gates open at 11am with building starting at 12pm sharp. All proceeds raised go to local agencies that focus on mental health to support those in Ottawa who need it.

Concerts by the Canal: Your Songs, Southminster United Church, February 11
This Saturday marks the return of the Saturday night concert series, Concerts by the Canal, with the theme of ‘Your Songs’.  This event will host soul-stirring popular and classical songs by Elton John, George Butterworth, Ivor Gurney, The Tragically Hip, Gerald Finzi, Billy Joel, Gordon Lightfoot, Procol Harum, Ralph Vaughan Williams and more – featuring David John Pike, baritone, and Matthew Larkin on piano. Doors open at 6:30pm, concert at 7pm, and ticket at the door are $20 for adults, or purchase a series pass for $100 general seating.

Winter Jazz Fest, La Nouvelle Scene, February 11 & 12
This week marks the start of the 6th edition of the TD Ottawa Winter Jazz Fest and the lineup is truly a treat! Taking place entirely indoors (PHEW!) at La Nouvelle Scene (333 King Edward Ave.) you will find this Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings packed with endless talent from Canada and beyond. Tickets start at $25, depending on the performer and they are selling out fast, so get yours today!

Creative Weekends, Ottawa Art Gallery, February 11 & 12
In celebration of Winterlude 2017, OAG is turning Creative Sundays into Creative Weekends! Drop by the OAG Annex Gallery at City Hall on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1-3pm during the festival for free family friendly creative activities suitable for all ages. Make something to take home with you, or collaborate on a cumulative project and help us reach our goal of creating the city’s largest pom-pom. No need to register, just drop-by.

The Beijing Symphony Orchestra, NAC, February 12
This Sunday a very special musical celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary will be taking place. Beijing Symphony Orchestra will be performing in Ottawa and they will be joined by invited members of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra for this once in a lifetime event. The special programme will feature Brahms’ majestic Violin Concerto, the splendour of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, as wells as an original contemporary composition by Chinese composers Lu Zheng and Hongye Ma. Tickets start at $29 and the show begins at 3pm.

Crackup Gala featuring John Candy Tribute, Infinity Convention Centre, February 12
Join Alterna Savings Crackup for a once-in-a-lifetime gathering of Canada’s best and most influential comedians - including Ron James, Mary Walsh, Patrick McKenna – at the Infinity Convention Centre, during our nation’s 150th anniversary celebration. Along with dinner and hilarious entertainment there will be priceless memorabilia shared with the public for the first time from the Candy family, 22 Minnutes, and Dan Akroyd. The event kicks off at 5pm and seats start at $200 with tables and VIP packages available.

Arkells and Frank Turner, TD Place, February 13
There has never been a better reason to look forward to a Monday night! At TD Place the Arkells will be performing with one of England's foremost contemporary singer-songwriters, post-hardcore punk turned folk troubadour Frank Turner. He is also known for his extensive touring schedule - he recently played his 200th show! Fans can expect a passionate and emotionally lifting live show as Frank displays his trademark wit and wisdom in support of his 6th record, Positive Songs for Negative People. Tickets from $82.

You’re Super: Art Party, Pressed Café, February 14
What better way to celebrate Valentine´s Day! The Ottawa Art Gallery presents You’re Super, an art party with Ottawa-based artist Joi T. Arcand. Drop by Pressed Café (750 Gladstone) and design your own superhero persona to trade, share, or keep all to yourself. All materials will be provided. This is an all-ages drop-in event. So come by between 8-11pm and start feeling super!

Atomic Love: Wine & Cheese, Diefenbunker, February 14
How deep is your love? From 6:30 – 10:30pm Valentine’s day come explore the depths of the Diefenbunker on a guided tour with wine and cheese! For $195 per couple, you will take a full tour of the bunker with stops along the way to sample delectable cheeses and fine wine pairings – 6 stops to be exact. You can also look forward to a photo booth with props in the Tunnel of Love (AKA Blast Tunnel), selfie stops along the tour and a coffee, tea and dessert bar waiting for you at the end.

YogiWino Winter Wonderful, Irish Hills Golf & Country Club, February 16

Red and White Gala, Ashbury College, February 16
The Red and White is Harmony House Women’s Shelter’s annual food, wine and beer fundraiser. Held at Ashbury College, 362 Mariposa, Chefs Michael Blackie, of NEXT Restaurant will be cooperating with Dave Godsoe of Restaurant E18HTEEN, to arrange an appetizing four-course meal. The event will also feature tastings from local food, wine and beer vendors. The tickets differ in price; starting at $75 to $90.
