Ottawa Beach Soccer Festival at Petrie Island Beach, until July 8 

Ottawa’s first ever Beach Soccer Festival is kicking off this weekend! From Friday to Sunday, head to Petrie Island in Orleans to play or watch soccer in the sunshine. All ages are welcome, and the event is free! What better way to enjoy the summer than soccer in the sand and sun?

Canadian Track and Field Championships at Terry Fox Athletic Facility, until July 8

It’s the battle of Canada’s best athletes this weekend — check out the four-day competition at Terry Fox Athletic Facility that will determine Canada’s national teams! See the best of Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes compete to make the World Championships, World Junior Championships, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and Pan/Parapan American Games. We suggest taking OcTranspo to get to Terry Fox, since the stadium has no parking. 

Wendover Western Festival at Wendover, July 10-15 

This week is the 34th annual Wendover Western Festival! From July 10th to 15th, skip town for the day and dance to some of this country’s greatest country shows! With events all day long, there’s fun for the whole family. Don’t miss the Parade, comedy show, craft show, line dancing, and more! Just a 40 minute drive outside of downtown Ottawa, Wendover’s Western Fest is a fabulous summer getaway!

The Unexpected Guest at Ottawa Little Theatre, July 11-28

Hello, Miss Christy! The famous mystery novelist’s book, “The Unexpected Guest” is being retold on the stage this week at the Ottawa Little Theatre! A weary traveller stumbles upon a country estate and seeks refuge inside. There he finds his own wife standing over the body of a man shot dead. A true homage to Agatha Christie’s wonderful and wacky work, “The Unexpected Guest” is a must-see. From July 11 to 28, check out shows at both 2pm and 7:30pm. 

RBC Bluesfest at LeBreton Flats , until July 15

Every summer Ottawa turns into Festival City, and this year we’re back with Bluesfest — one of the largest international music events in the world! Over 220 musical artists are performing on outdoor stages across town, so join the 300,000 fans and check out who’s playing! This year’s lineup is one you won’t want to miss: Bryan Adams, Passenger, The War on Drugs, Lauv, Shawn Mendes, and so many more! 

Jordan Seal - Wealth of the Eternal Garden  at City Hall - Art Gallery, until July 24 

Check out some of the magical art currently on display at City Hall! Jordan Seal’s multimedia art explores spirituality through organic abstraction. With drawings, paintings, and sculptures, Seal creates a metaphorical eden through which his viewer can explore their own ideas. The exhibit invites you to envision other worlds and to get lost in artistic concepts. Admission is free and the exhibit is open from 9am-8pm.

Music and Beyond at Downtown churches and concert halls, July 4-17

Whether you’re a Mozart person or a Bach aficionado, there will be something for you at the concerts and recitals of this classical music festival. A whole range of musical groups, including orchestras, choirs, bands, wind ensembles, baroque groups and small ensembles perform in recitals across the city. The festival not only celebrates the beauty and intricacy of classical music, but also creates an understanding of the links between the tunes and other forms of art and culture.

Pandit Birju Maharaj and his group at the Canadian Museum of History, July 6

Tonight, July 6th, head to the Canadian Museum of History at 7:30 for a magical night of dance! Upasana Dance Company is celebrating Maharaji ji’s 80th birthday with a performance by Pandit Birju Maharaj and his group, Pt. BIrju Maharaj, his disciple VIdushi Saswati Sen, and Ottawa disciples Saveeta Sharma and Deepti Gupta and the next generation of dancers at Upasana! Don’t miss this unique celebration of dance, music, and storytelling! Tickets are available for $40-60. 

Polo in the Park Ottawa at WESLEY CLOVER PARK, July 7

Hockey is a well known practice in these parts, but what about “hockey on horses”? This Saturday from 11am to 5pm, the Rotary Club of Ottawa South is partnering with Wesley Clover Parks and the Ottawa Polo Club to bring you Polo in the Park! The event will raise funds for Wounded Warriors Canada and the Rotary Club’s Community Projects. With fun for all ages, Polo in the Park has something for everyone. See dog agility and horseback riding demonstrations, check out the children’s area full of fun activities for the kids, and head over to the wine and beer garden!

Hands on History Musket Firing at Goulbourn Museum, July 8

Get your hands on some real history this Sunday! Goulbourn Museum is partnering with the 100th Regiment of Foot to deliver Hands on History, where you can load and fire a Brown Bess musket! Step into the shoes of a soldier and learn about the past! The cost to fire three rounds is $22 (taxes included) and the program is offered on select Sundays and Thursdays until August. Participants must be aged 16+.
