Music, food, costumes, and a parade — what more could you want from a summer bash?  This weekend is Ottawa’s biggest celebration of the Caribbean culture! Try some Caribbean delicacies and dance to the best beats in a colourful and vibrant street parade!

Ottawa Explosion Weekend at various locations, until Jun 18 

Ottawa Explosion Weekend will be on until June 18 — the independent music festival that   features bands from Ottawa and more! Check out the small venues for some rad gigs: Black Squirrel Books, Pressed, House of Targ, Babylon, 27 club, and many more. 

Seniors Pop-up Painting at NAC, until Jun 27

What better place to paint than in the NAC’s astounding new glass atrium? Pop Up Painting will be at the NAC at 1:30pm on June 27, and the session is free! Just RSVP in advance, since there are only 30 places. Painters of all ages and experience are welcome! Bring your creativity and get colourful!

Italian Week at Preston Street BIA – Little Italy, Jun 7- 17

When in Rome…or in this case, Ottawa! Italian Week has officially begun, bringing the dolce vita to you for 10 whole days. Celebrating all things Italian, be it art, culture or history, the festival offers food, fun and music and will feature an epic carnival-style parade.

Ottawa DragonBoat Festival 2018 at Mooney’s Bay Park, Jun 21-24

Going strong since 1994, the DragonBoat festival is one of the biggest events of the summer. Currently boasting 200 teams in competitive, corporate and community categories, the sport and entertainment event is considered North America's largest dragon boating festival. The four-day long party features not only races but also (free) concerts, sports demos, artisans and exhibitors, scrumptious food and a kids zone.

GlowFair at Bank Street between Slater and Gilmour, Jun 16-17

Get ready for the biggest block party of the season! Ten blocks of Bank Street are shut down to make way for a glow in the dark celebration. A smorgasbord of music, art and light, the event includes street installations and performers, a silent disco, musical performances by Ralph, Karl Wolf and more, and sold-out Glow Yoga with Nigel Walker, voted Best Yoga Teacher in the capital by Faces Magazine.

Ottawa Beer Fest at Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne, Jun 15-16

This beer bonanza has all the bases covered. Showcasing 40 craft breweries, a Craft Beer 5K Run/Walk, yoga on tap and live music, there’s something for everyone. Beer school classes and brewmaster seminars teach about beer pairing and making. And don’t worry – your ride is taken care of with free OC Transpo to and from the festival. Tickets come with 10 beer sample tickets and a mug.

Three Chefs, One Dinner at NeXT restaurant, Jun 20

Move Over Mrs. Markham at Ottawa Little Theatre, Jun 6-23

Head to Ottawa Little Theatre between June 6-23 and check out the new hilarious and sexy play you won’t want to miss. Philip Markham is a timid children’s book publisher. He and his wife, Joanna have been married for 15 years and are getting bored. Philip’s business partner, Henry, is a philanderer who plans to borrow Philip’s apartment to do some philandering. Henry’s wife, it turns out, has the same plan. Joanna’s interior decorator has an eye for the housekeeper… when Philip stumbles on all three couples, hilarity ensues. Shows start at 7.30 and 2.30 p.m. A Student ticket is $12, seniors are $24, and adults are $27.

Ocean Alley at 27 Club, Jun 15

Head to 27 York Street Tonight for Ocean Alley’s first time playing Ottawa! The rock band from Sydney is bringing their atmospheric grooves to one of the best clubs in town. Doors open at 8:30 and the show is bound to be banging. Don’t miss the chance to see them live!
