Miss Shakespeare - a new Canadian Musical at The Gladstone Theatre, May 23- Jun 2 

From May 23rd to June 2nd, you can check out this innovative musical about Shakespeare’s daughter, Judith. Miss Shakespeare tells the story of female creativity and the draw of the theatre. It’s the 1600s and inside The Cage Tavern six women aredrawn together by their love for theatre… from which women are still banned. The story is punctuated with a musical score influenced by underground European Cabaret. The musical is directed by Bronwyn Steinberg, the show features Rachel Eugster, Leah Cogan, Robin Guy, Shawna Pasini, Iyono Ede, Laura Hall, and Natalie Fraser. Tickets are $39 for Adults, $35 for Seniors, and $23 for Students, with shows at both 2:30pm and 7:30pm.


Latin American Film Festival at Ottawa Art Gallery, until May 26

Take atropical getaway right here in Ottawa by checking out the Latin American Film Festival (LAFF)! Presented in collaboration by the Canadian Film Institute and Group of Latin American Ambassadors, LAFF showcases the very best in documentaries and short films from down south making their Ottawa premieres. Hosted at the newly-renovated Ottawa Art Gallery, there is sure to be much to do and see. Along with film screenings, various Q&As with filmmakers and a food and culture fair will also be a part of the festivities. Don’t miss out on this! Tickets are available now.


She's Listening show May 25 at Irene's Pub for Ovarian Cancer Canada

Hear powerful performances of women in music at She's Listening Ottawa. Founded in 2012, the national concert series has shows across Canada supporting Ovarian Cancer Canada. Attend the show in its hometown to listen to Kathryn Berry-Sauvageau, Eniid Goodman, Krista Hartman, Karen Harrison, Crystalena and Nayana. Make sure to pick up a copy of the 2018 She's Listening CD while you’re there, featuring tracks by Ottawa's own Jessy Lindsay, Jessica Pearson and the East Wind and Kristine St-Pierre. Plus, don’t miss tunes from Jadea Kelly, Sweet Alibi, Cindy Doire and Rachel Beck. Tickets are $10 with all funds benefitting Ovarian Cancer Canada.


Art ShowCase: Fortune Finding at Camp Fortune Ski Aerial Park and Ziplines, May 25

Ottawa/Gatineau is home to many incredibly talented artists either starting out in business or looking to expand their horizons. But with so much competition, these artists thrive when they can make in person connections. More than a dozen selected artists will be sharing, performing, promoting & selling their creative masterpieces at “The Fortune Finding”, an art showcase to help artists connect with their communities. Browse the small market of art kiosks displaying physical and digital art works from clothes and paintings to videos and pictures. Pick up a drink at the bar or hang out in the main spot to listen to live music including Indie Rock, Experimental Jazz, DJ sets by local Lo-Fi Electronic musicians. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. Event starts at 7.30 p.m.


Murder Mystery Ottawa at The Prescott + The Red Lion, May 26

There's a cold-blooded killer on the loose and it’s only a matter of time before another body turns up! Can you find out whodunnit? Meet murderously funny characters as the accusations fly. Whether you want to enjoy the show or get involved in catching the culprit, there’s something for everyone. This Murder Mystery popcorn theatre is far from drab dinner theatre, with complimentary popcorn being the only food served during the show. Doors open at 7:30, but the curtain rises at 8:00. Those of you with kids at home – don’t worry! The show runs until around 9:50, leaving plenty of time to get home to the babysitter. Ideal for anyone ages 6 – 99, the performance is rated PG for gun play but no swearing.


Nature Nocturne - Body and Mind at Museum of Nature, May 25 

Today is the last Friday of the month, so you know what that means–Nature Nocturne! This month’s theme is the brain… find out what’s behind the curtain of your mind while DJs fill the castle with sound! Meet artists in the galleries, explore the exhibitions, and get your drink on! This event is 19+ and tickets are available online for $25.


The 2018 Happening Festival at Wellington Village, May 25 - Jun 2

The sun’s out, the tulips are up, and that means it’s the start of festival season! The Happening Festival is on from May 25th to June 2nd, and it’s bigger than ever. This year, Wellington Village is combining with Arts Park to make one great big Happening Festival. The festival celebrates the businesses, art, and culture of Wellington West, the area made up of Hintonburg and Wellington. This Friday, check out the opening party that’ll kick off the celebrations. May 26, 27, 31st, and June 1st, drop by events happening all over the neighbourhood, hosted by cool local businesses. On the last day, June 2nd, don’t miss the Happening ArtsPark — from 10am to 11pm enjoy live music, an artisan marketplace, food, craft beer, and fun for kids too! 


Great Glebe Garage Sale at The Glebe neighbourhood, May 26 

Some people say Victoria Day is the unofficial start of summer, but in Ottawa it’s the Great Glebe Garage Sale! The Great Glebe Garage Sale is a community event organized by the Glebe Community Association since 1986. Homeowners in the Glebe are the primary vendors working on their front lawns, driveways and porches. Collectively they make one giant sale that has become an annual community festival attracting thousands of people to the neighbourhood! This Saturday, come take a stroll through the ‘hood and find a treasure or two. Bring the sunscreen and maybe an umbrella! 


The HPH Open Mic With Jess Cole at The Hintonburg Public House, May 26 

It’s Open Mic Night at the Hintonburg Public House! Muskoka Brewery is teaming up with Jess Cole to give you a night of tunes and brew. Stop by this Saturday and sample the best of Ottawa — or maybe show us some of your musical skills! 


Family Dance Fundraiser at Broadview Avenue P.S.'s School Council, May 31

Support education by taking part in an amazing community event! The Broadview Avenue P.S. School is looking for sponsors for their Family Dance Fundraiser on May 31st from 6-8pm. Be a part of an indispensable program for the many families who struggle to make ends meat for their kids. Each year, Broadview hosts several fundraisers to support educational programs and help out their OCDSB sister school, York. So all of the funds raised by the Family Dance will go directly to a great local cause! Now, Broadview is looking to parter with local businesses, so why not get involved in something great?
