HOLLOWFEST 2017 at Demoulin Acres, September 29

Yeah, the weather may say otherwise but it’s really harvest time! Demoulin Acres is kicking us into fall with the first annual Hallowfest. It’s camping, it’s music and it’s all out in the Ontario countryside. Your 50 bucks gets you two nights of camping and one epic lineup of music. Bring the dogs, bring the family and bring a coat because, hey, it might get chilly.

Rockable Hours at Babylon Nightclub, September 29

Don’t fight the law, rock out with them for a good cause tonight at Babylon. Rockable Hours is a charity concert with a bit of a legal twist. All the bands are made up of lawyers or law students. Order in the court? We’ll take a wicked guitar solo! All ticket sale proceeds go to the Ottawa Food Bank. Groups will bang the drums (and the gavel) with performances by Chairman and the Bored, Bail Denied and Caveat Rumps! Besides, when else can you say you saw a lawyer for only $15?

OTTAWA WELCOMES THE WORLD – High Commission of India, September 29

Namaste!  The colorful clothing, the sound of sitar and, oh yes, the food! All will be on display as Ottawa welcomes the culture of India to the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park. You will be able to indulge in the tastes, music and art of the country all without having to pull out your passport.

Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village, September 29 – October 29

You know the Haunting Season is upon us when Upper Canada Village becomes awash with orange light shining through Stroll through spooky carvings. The always popular Award-winning Pumpkinferno is back to amazing with a spellbinding outdoor exhibit of close to 7,000 hand-carved pumpkins.  Where else can you discover the culture of Canada in a world that looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie?

AVA Recordings Night – Ottawa at City At Night, September 30

Two of the biggest performers on the AVA Recordings label, Somna and Sheridan Grout, will hit the stage for a special night of music and motion. The show also features Niles Baxter, so there’s no excuse to not get your groove on with one of the Trance scenes biggest labels. Ticket are limited.

Oktoberfest Ottawa at Standherd Ultimate Park, until September 30

Ok, so it’s in September but fans of a good party will tell you it’s never too early to celebrate Oktoberfest. Head on out to Standherd Ultimate Park for 21,600 square feet of contests, beer, games, beer, fantastic food and beer. Did we mention beer? Entertainment will be provided by some of Canadian Country Music’s finest with Meghan Patrick, Charlie Major and Chad Brownlee breaking out just the right amount of twang to go with your brew.

Fall Rhapsody at Gatineau Park, September 30 - October 22

We’re hoping the unusual heat wave last week hasn’t put off the spectacle that Gatineau Park becomes in the fall. Each weekend get up close and personal with nature while observing the brilliant displays of oranges and yellows in the trees above. It’s a fall rhapsody for the whole family! For the first time a shuttle bus service is available, too. 

OTTAWA WELCOMES THE WORLD – Embassy of the Slovak Republic, October 1

In case you didn’t know, Ottawa has been welcoming a lot of the world this year to share in our 150th! The Slovak Republic is next in line to showcase their culture in a day of food, fashion and fun. Sample regional wines while the kids enjoy Slovakian cakes. Don’t forget to introduce yourself to Slovakian arts and other products at the various booths set up in the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park.

Friends of Zen Dinner at Beechwood Gastropub, October 1

Friends of Zen may sound like a meditative experience but this is more for your stomach then your mind. Chef, writer and all around community love Caroline Ishii will be serving out a four-course dinner and dialogue at the Beechwood Gastropub. The menu is sure to turn your “omm” into “yumm” with vegan and gluten-free dishes. Those who visited Caroline’s former home in ZenKitchen will know the pool of deliciousness they are falling into. Others, well, just dive in!

ABC's of wine and food pairing at Soif Bar à vin, October 2

It’s a treat of tastes for the pallets of the coinsure and curious alike!

Tero Saarinen Company at NAC, October 4-5

Finnish dance prodigy Tero Saarinen sets out to answer an age-old question: what makes a man a man? This muscular new work takes seven male dancers on a reflective and unfettered journey into the essence of maleness (we’re pretty sure the scratching, belching and game day curses are not included). The show is described as raw, springing from primal wellsprings but well tempered by the kinetic soundscape of Esa-Pekka Salonen.

OTTAWA WELCOMES THE WORLD – Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, October 4-8

We’re welcoming the world yet again, this time with a spotlight on the wonders of China. Beijing Week will feature a Great Wall-sized amount of activities including traditional acrobatic performances, folk songs and opera. Those looking to shop will want to check out the craftsmanship in Chinese cloisonné, paper-cutting, and Beijing embroidery. Those looking to eat, however, can fill up on delicacies you just can’t order in your typical Chinese delivery phone call. We’re bagging some spring rolls!

Mosaïcanada 150 at Gatineau Jacques-Cartier Park, Until October 15

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the garden of in Jacques-Cartier Park called Mosaïcanada you better get your hustle on. The discovery walk through 150 years of Canadian history as told by beautiful sculpted greenery ends on Octber 15.
