Paint the Town White: Ottawa Snowsuit Fund Holds White Night Fundraiser

The Snowsuit Fund of Ottawa is a well-known charity that raises money for the purchase and distribution of snowsuits to needy children, 15 years and under. Recently, my boyfriend Jeff and I had the privilege of attending Bash en Blanc - A White Night Out – presented by Moxie's and Rinaldo's in support of this amazing endeavor.

993078_594631540570596_24989651_nThe Snowsuit Fund is just one social organization working to relieve poverty in the National Capital Region, but like so many of its sister organizations, the demand for its services continues to grow. In the Snowsuit Fund's 2011/2012 season, the charity distributed over 15,000 new snowsuits.

We couldn’t think of a better cause to support, and clearly we weren’t the only ones, with the venue being jam-packed. Included with general admission was access to a fashion show, DJ, dancing, cash bars featuring specialty cocktails and premium beer, and optional bottle service. Other attractions were an open bar pre-party for VIP pass-holders, as well as delicious bites, an exclusive VIP area and a terrific swag bag.

The Snowsuit Fund is now in its 31st year of operation, and has managed to meet the challenge of keeping underprivileged kids warm during our perilously cold winters. The Snowsuit Fund has also brought dignity and hope to families who simply do not have the means to provide their children with the necessities for living.

Walking into the event was like walking into Heaven, where everyone was wearing white - it was a pretty amazing scene. We began our night by sampling some Heineken and Grey Goose, as well as munching on some delicious hors d'oeuvres. It was unlike many events I’ve attended, as it brought the atmosphere of a club scene, with quite a laid-back feeling. Everyone was dancing, drinking, and having a grand time. Fortunately, we were treated to the VIP experience, which was really memorable as we don’t get out to the clubs a lot. The entertainment began with some amazing beat boxers, followed by a fashion show, full of different fashions that we could observe, and note for later.

Although the Snowsuit Fund hopes to one day close its doors for good, in the short term, it must continue to ensure that no child is left out in the cold. To do that, the Snowsuit Fund relies entirely on the dedication of its staff, volunteer Board of Directors, and the countless caring individuals who give their time, money and talent to the charity. Thanks to their commitment, the Snowsuit Fund is able to keep its administrative costs low and focus financial resources on purchasing snowsuits. Fortunately, the Snowsuit Fund has been able to establish healthy relationships with several Canadian snowsuit manufacturers. Negotiated prices allow them to obtain warm, fashionable and safe snowsuits while stretching their dollars to the maximum. The Snowsuit Fund must continually, however, seek out new ways in which to sustain its operation. It's always looking for support. If anyone is interested in attending a Snowsuit Fund event, visit
