Perspectives on Raoul Wallenberg: International Panel Discussion

The embassies of Sweden, Israel, Hungary and the Jewish Federation of Ottawa jointly present a panel of experts on the legacy of Raoul Wallenberg as it relates to today’s discussions on tolerance, personal courage and how one person can make a difference.

Panelists: Irving Abella (writer, historian and academic), the Hon. Irwin Cotler (Liberal Member of Parliament, Mount Royal, Quebec), Brian Palmer (social anthropologist and scholar of religion at Uppsala University in Sweden) and Áron Máthé (researcher/curator at House of Terror Museum in Hungary).

Raoul Wallenberg saved thousands of Jews from the Holocaust while his own fate remains unknown. In 1985, Wallenberg became Canada’s first honorary citizen. 2012 marks the centenary of his birth.
