Ready, Set, Glow!

For two nights, enjoy as Bank Street is lit up like never before! Glowfair Festival is back on June 14-16 and it's going to be bigger than ever. Celebrate the start of summer at this weekend-long event which aims to empower local artists and businesses. Glowfair is a full trifecta of lights, arts and music!

Glowfair is a non-profit organization that involves Bank Street restaurants, bars, merchants and other Bank Street members. Their mission is to give back to the community by empowering the neighbourhood with music and the arts. Glowfair brings people from far and wide down to Bank Street and helps to create a sense of community and belonging. The festival “will be working to support and give back to charitable organizations that support youth and promote the arts for community improvement.” They aim to “provide opportunities to underserved youth while supporting a mission of inclusion and diversity.”

Taking place along Bank Street from Slater to James, the street will come to life with vivid decorations and creative music acts and performers in an epic block party. The festival’s main stage, located at 403 Bank Street, will feature the festival’s headliners, STARS and Coeur De Pirate.

"Glowfair reflects the demographics of Bank Street. We have a young, ever growing population and we want to celebrate that and party with them," says Christine Leadman, executive director of the Downtown Bank Street Business Improvement Association (BIA). "Bank Street is about grads and pads, young, hip under-40s who are socially-conscious, love live music and want to experience the real thing. We’re also home to the Village and we’re all inclusive, so we built on that. That’s Glowfair: a nod to who we are in every sense of the word."

Each of the 10 blocks will have their own theme and feeling, ranging from a Silent Disco to street performances! On June 15th, between Cooper and Somerset, don't miss Glow Yoga™, a glow in the dark yoga class that celebrates the human spirit through yoga practices in unique locations. Founded by Ottawa’s Top Yoga Instructor for 2015, 2017 and 2018 (FACES Magazine), Nigel Walker leads yoga classes and retreats both locally and internationally.

“Glowfair is a block party like no other! This isn’t just their slogan, it’s a feeling that pulses through the festival. From the moment you begin to walk down Bank Street you instantly feel the vibration of excitement that Glowfair creates all around you," says Nigel Walker. "Whether you come for the street performers, live music or Glow Yoga™, you’re bound to be inspired. It’s an absolute honour to be part of the festival for the fourth year in row and to have the opportunity to celebrate community, diversity and local business!”

On June 14th and 15th, explore the Magic Garden where Aerial Antic’s mystical butterflies can be found dancing through LED trees while amazing performers will surround you creating an interactive experience. Get lost in the magic of this block between Lisgar and Cooper.

Celebrate the work of Indigenous artists at Turtle Island, between Somerset and MacLaren. Indigenous artists, performers and Elders will come together on Turtle Island with captivating music and dance performances, as well as a traditional village recreation. This block is lead by cultural ambassador Jason Gullo, a renowned Indigenous dancer, visual artist, and educator.

Children of all ages can enjoy the festival's Play Station, located from Laurier to Gloucester on June 16 (11am – 5pm). From jugglers and face painters, to superheroes and a chalk zone, Glowfair offers a family friendly experience!

Discover many more themed blocks such as Art Chaos, DJ stage, Ottawa Capital Pride’s PrideWalk and the RetroRink at this year's Glowfair Festival!
