Spooktacular Weekend What's Up - October 28 - 30

Here at Ottawa Life, we are on the lookout for great events to do over the weekend. Here is what Ottawa has in store for a special Pre-Hallowe’en edition of the Weekend What’s Up for your Halloweekend! See you there!

rocky-horrorThe Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Mayfair
This Friday and Saturday at 9:30pm and 11:45pm the Mayfair Theatre is screening the cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We can guarantee you have never experienced anything like this one-of-a-kind sing-along featuring the Absent Friends shadow cast. So break out your fishnets, surgical masks, party hats and warm, preferably unbuttered, toast and get ready to do the “Time Warp” again…and again…and again! ($10 for members and $15 for non-members)

pumpkin-ball10th Annual
Great Pumpkin Charity Ball
Looking to celebrate Hallowe’en and give back to the community? Look no further than the 10th Annual Great Pumpkin Charity Ball in support of the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing - National Capital Region, St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Ottawa Food Bank. This over-the-top bash is taking place at St. Brigid’s Haunted Castle, at 8pm on Saturday, October 29th. This year’s theme is Poison: Descent into Darkness, so start planning your costume now! With 750 guests and only $40 a ticket, you are going to have a spooky good time!

saunders-barn-of-terror-1Saunders Farm
Take advantage of the final weekend to enjoy Saunders Farm’s Haunting Season both during the day from 10am – 5pm and for Fright Fest 6pm – 9pm. During the day adults and children of all ages will enjoy the variety of activities including live music, puppet shows, play structures, hedge mazes, a pumpkin hayride, animals from Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary, jumping pillows and the all-new vintage carnival.  At night Saunders Farm completely transforms into a seriously scary ‘Experimental Farm’ where thrill-seekers get to meet some of these experiments gone wrong face-to-face in a series of attractions and experiences with charming names like The Shambles, Camp Slaughter and the Cemetery Scare Zone. This is definitely a scare-seekers paradise! Admission ranges from $18.58 for daytime to $31.86 for night.

olmOur Lady Peace & I Mother Earth
It is spooky how much Ottawanians love Canadian artists (see what I did there?) If you are looking to avoid pumpkins and ghosts, check out two of Canada’s most beloved bands, Our Lady Peace and I Mother Earth at 7pm on Saturday, October 28 at TD Place. Featuring Edwin and the Standstills, Ottawa is their 2nd last stop on their cross-Canada tour, so catch this show and relive the 90s while you still can! Tickets are still available from $59.

3dcanada-3d-printing3D Canada
Getting bored with selfies? Well, what would you say about owning your very own a 3D printed miniature bust? On Saturday, October 29th between 12pm - 4:30PM, Simons will be hosting 3D scanning and printing booths at the Rideau Centre, providing their customers with a miniature bust of their likeness. The crowd-sourced, 3D-printed art initiative known as 3DCanada is a first of its kind and is coming to Ottawa. Led by Canadian novelist and artist Douglas Coupland, in partnership with Simons, the project will culminate in Coupland unveiling a sculpture made of hundreds of 3D-printed busts. It doesn’t get much cooler than this!

Schmoozefest 2016
More into sharing than scaring? (ok,
we are reaching now.) Then start your Saturday night with Ottawa’s premier networking extravaganza, Schmoozefest 2016. Taking the work out of networking, Schmoozefest, brought to you by United Way Ottawa, is all about bringing together the city’s movers and shakers to connect, share and grow – all in a party atmosphere. Located at the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park, $45 gets you access to complimentary food from Ottawa’s best establishments, a free drink, prizes, a live DJ and of course access to the city’s best and brightest in one place. We recommend checking out this year’s roster of People 2 Know ahead of time!

FAll2016_Booby Call outBoobyball
Welcome to the jungle! This Saturday night at Lago Bar & Grill prepare for some wild animal sightings as the legendary Boobyball kicks off its second Ottawa fundraising bash in support of Rethink Breast Cancer. This year’s theme is Paradise City and it is going to be a wild night. Admission includes an open bar, a live DJ and access to Ottawa’s most stylish young philanthropist as you party the night away - all while raising funds to help those affected by breast cancer. This event is sold out so if you don’t have your ticket already, we suggest you earmark this one for next year!
