The Game Is Afoot at the Gladstone Theatre

It’s elementary … this Sherlock Holmes play is laugh-out-loud  funny!  So put that in your Meerschaum pipe and smoke it!

Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Hansom Cab Killer will be presented by The Gladstone & Black Sheep Theatre October 16-26.

Three performers play more than 30 characters in this fast-paced, slapstick comedy/mystery/satire – possibly the best Sherlock Holmes send-up since The Firesign Theatre’s The Tale of The Giant Rat of Sumatra.

Don’t miss this new comedic take on the World’s Greatest Consulting Detective. Holmes is the greatest detective the world has ever known. John Watson is the world’s greatest detective sidekick. Mrs. Hudson is the world’s greatest… housekeeper? Join Holmes and Watson as they race through the cobbled streets of London to catch a killer! Will they succeed? Will the Empire topple? Will Mrs. Hudson have to clean up the mess?

Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Hansom Cab Killer was written by Christ Bange. The production is directed by Ottawa’s Dave Dawson.

In the summer of 2012, Dawson, Artistic Director of Black Sheep Theatre, ran into Seattle-based writer and performer Chris Bange, who happened to be in town touring a show. The two knew each other from the North American festival circuit, so Bange showed Dawson the draft of a script he was working on. Seeing the potential, Dawson rented The Gladstone for a week, and Bange got Emily Windler and Greg Kuwabara, who – along with Bange – are graduates of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater in Northern California, to fly in from the west coast for an intensive workshop/creation process. The result of this was Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Hansom Cab Killer.  Bange, Kuwabara and Windler took the show on the road for “out of town previews” in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Victoria, Seattle, Portland, Centralia (WA), and New Orleans, with sell-out runs and rave reviews throughout.
