The Ottawa Suzuki Strings Music School has a vision to “create a music school that is internationally recognized for the quality of its pedagogy and the achievements of its students and faculty, resulting from a culture of innovation in training and development.”
The Stella Boreales Violin Ensemble is a perfect testament to that vision.
The Ensemble was founded in 2004 by Rosemarie Klimasko, Jean Barsalou and Kit Barham. They aim “to be one of the world’s finest ensembles of young violinists.”
There are between 20-30 middle and high school students in the Ensemble. One thing all of these students have in common? A dedication and commitment to excellence in music.
The development of musicianship is at the core of the School’s music program and is a central focus for the Ensemble. Students participate in social and musical growth activities throughout the year.
Coaches Karoly Sziladi, Sara Mastrangelo and Judith Ginsburg take the time to assist the students on to excellence.
The commitment of the Ensemble “to a rigorous schedule of rehearsal and performance” has brought them on tours and partaking in workshops all around the world: Vancouver, New York City, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Iceland, Cuba and Japan. They also perform locally with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and at the National Gallery.
Former students of the Ottawa Suzuki Strings Music School have gone on to be accepted into other prestigious music programs and have won national and international competitions including the Canada Music Competition and the Menuhin Junior Violin competition. Some students have even pursued a professional career right here in Ottawa through the NAC Orchestra.
The talent of Stellae Boreales is undeniable. Listeners are sure to grow a deeper appreciation for the bows and strings.
