The Y is Coming Back to Carlingwood

The YMCA-YWCA Will Open a New Club at the Carlingwood Mall in January!

The Carlingwood Mall will soon house a new YMCA-YWCA – to be located in the mall's downstairs area – which will provide members with strength-training and aerobic conditioning equipment; group exercise classes; children’s recreational programs; a pool for leisure swims, aquafit classes, and children’s swim lessons; inviting social spaces; and child-minding services.  It'll be a great place to unwind, to work off the cares of the day.

In July and August, the YMCA-YWCA pre-registered members with the goal of expanding its family of Ottawa fitness facilities and opening a new location at the Mall in Ottawa's old west end – near Woodroffe and Carling. The community’s positive response was critical for the Y to proceed with its plan to lease and renovate a 23,500 square-foot space inside the Carlingwood Mall. With this confirmation now in place, renovations will begin immediately and the planned opening date is slated for January 2014.

Carlingwood_YMCAFloorPlanAs a special thanks to its supporters, the Y is offering everyone who has pre-registered for the Carlingwood Y free advance access to any of its other fitness facilities in the National Capital Region, beginning December 1, 2013 and continuing until the Carlingwood Y opens in 2014.

“We want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has shown their commitment to us,” said Tosha Rhodenizer, Vice-President of Health, Wellness and Family Engagement for the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region. “It is truly humbling that so many of you believed in our ability to bring a Y back to Carlingwood, and we can’t wait to open our doors once again to this wonderful community.”

The new facility will build upon the Y’s strong connection to Carlingwood, a community it served for more than four decades at the Carlingwood Y on Lockhart Avenue.

Rhodenizer thanked the many volunteers, community groups and media partners who supported the new YMCA-YWCA at Carlingwood.
