Turn Your Summer Fashion Staples Into Your Fall Go-Tos!

We've had quite an interesting fall season here in the National Capital Region! After a very rainy summer, we had a surprise heat wave that lasted throughout most of September.

Therefore, most of us got more wear out of our summer wardrobe over the last month than we did during July and August. If you’re going through a wardrobe dilemma now that the weather has finally cooled down a bit, don’t fret–here are some easy ways you can transition some of your summer staples to fall.

Cotton T-shirts

High-quality, cotton t-shirts are something everyone should have in their wardrobe. They’re timeless, comfortable and very versatile. A way to transition your fave short-sleeve tees over to the colder season is to layer it over a long sleeve tee. This style is particularly making a big comeback in men’s fashion, inspired by trends of the late 90s and early 2000s. It gives an effortlessly urban and stylish look when paired with jeans and nice sneakers. This style is also practical as you can remove one of the layers if it does happen to warm up a bit throughout the day. Play around with different pattern and colour combinations. Layering a t-shirt under a denim jacket or a flannel button-up is another classic, but cool look for the fall.

Denim Skirts and Shorts

Denim mini-skirts recently came back into style and they can be easily transitioned to wear in the cooler months. The skirts themselves come in so many varieties – light wash, dark wash, distressed, with chunky buttons and more – and can be layered over tights or worn with long socks so your legs stay nice and warm while you rock them. This look is great paired with either a fitted turtleneck or chunky sweater depending on whether you’re going for a laid-back, comfy look or a more polished, sleek look. If you’re not a skirt person, this same look can be achieved with denim shorts! For a more formal, evening look, pair some black dress shorts with black stockings.

Summer Dresses

Lightweight, summer dresses were great for the September heatwave and you can continue wearing them throughout the fall season by doing some layering. A fitted turtleneck in a colour that compliments the dress can be worn underneath to keep your neck and arms warm, while still looking very stylish and put together. If it’s a really cool day, throw on a pair of tights as well. This look can even be dressed up for the evening if you swap out the casual, summer dress for a lightweight, simple cocktail dress. If you’re not into the turtle neck look, summer dresses also pair well with a denim or leather jacket.
