Happy New Year! Christmas may be over and 2017 in full swing, but if you are still looking to hold onto a little bit of holiday magic, then this is the last weekend to experience some of our festive favourites.

Alight at Night, Upper Canada Village, Until Jan 7
A quick drive out to Morrisburg will have you immersed in holiday magic. A true winter wonderland, the historic buildings are covered in over 1 million lights and your whole family will enjoy a wide range of activities including horse-drawn wagon rides as well as festive dining and shopping.

Christmas Lights Across Canada, Parliament Hill, Until Jan 7
This 15-minute long show consists of moving images projected onto the Parliament Buildings accompanied by beautiful orchestral music. The show follows the adventure of three friends, Grizzli, Fox and Snowman, travelling their way through gorgeous, colourful landscapes while they follow the light. The show begins nightly at 5:30pm.

Winter Takes Flight, Canada Aviation and Space Museum, Until Jan 8
The Aviation Museum is about to wrap up their holiday programming which includes interactive learning and activities for kids of all ages based on Christmas traditions throughout Canadian aviation history, including an obstacle course in a foot-powered biplane, a Christmas Truce scavenger hunt and the Kuujjuaq Christmas Candy Drop.

This is also a great weekend to take in some of our amazing museums before they close for their annual maintenance over the week of January 9th – 13th.

Canadian War Museum
Featuring a number of special exhibitions, including Preserved in Stone – Underground Art of the First World War, Deadly Skies – Air War 1914 – 1918 and Traces of the First World War – Newfoundland and Labrador.

Canadian Museum of Nature
Featuring a special exhibition, Reptiles, the whole family will enjoy the exhibit and fun reptile-themed activities like dress-up, bingo and more. Make sure to also catch Earthflight 3D – a revolutionary cinematic experience following migratory birds.

Canadian Museum of History
Featuring the always-delightful Children’s Museum, a handful of holiday programming and special exhibitions that will be closing soon: Napoleon and Paris, and Gold Rush! – El Dorado in British Columbia.

Ottawa Senators, Canadian Tire Centre, Jan 7 & 8
This weekend the Ottawa Senators are taking on the Washington Capitals on Saturday and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday making this weekend a hockey lovers dream! You know the drill, the game starts at 7pm and tickets start at $20 for the nose-bleeds.

Shen Yun, NAC, Jan 7 & 8
The New York based Shen Yun is back in the city with an all new program that takes audiences on an epic –not to mention, stunning, 5,000 year journey through Chinese civilization using the universal language of dance and music. Shows are Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm as well as a matinee 2:00pm on Sunday. Tickets start at $90.

Lucky Ron, Chateau Lafayette, Jan 7
Surely Playboy, the New York Times and all of Ottawa cannot be wrong. The Laff is an Ottawa institution and the same goes for Lucky Ron, who has performed his show there every Saturday at 4pm since 1999. Make this weekend your opportunity to finally see and hear the legend! There is no cover and get there early to make sure you get a table
