Wall Space Gallery Welcomes Stewart Jones’ latest exhibit, Landscapes for Film

Composition in Blues, 36×36, oil on canvas

In the heart of Westboro, Wall Space Gallery is committed to showcasing thought-provoking and engaging exhibitions, representing both emerging and established Canadian artists working in traditional and new media. On Friday February 8th from 5:30-7:30 pm, join Wall Space Gallery in welcoming Prince Edward County based artist, Stewart Jones, as he displays his latest solo exhibit, Landscape for Film.

Fuelled by his experiences as a an animator, an artistic director and an artist, Jones's work chronicles urban spaces that are often overlooked including graffitied alleyways, long stretches of road and looming buildings. Through the use of sharp geometry and a condensed colour palette, Jones captures these seemingly unimportant places from the most unexpected angles while being mindful of where light and shadow meet. These overlooked spaces become pleasantly familiar in Landscapes for Film.

Jones' oil paintings draw parallels to how a set designer or director would seek out scenes for a film, searching for a place that commands the essence of a certain location. Through these similarities, Jones sees his works as springboards for storytelling and memory, as if they were locations in a film.

At the opening reception for Landscapes for Film, guests will not only have the chance to meet Jones and learn about his passion for art, but also for supporting Lake Ontario Waterkeeper and Ottawa Riverkeeper, part of the Swim, Drink, Fish Waterkeeper Alliance.

For nearly 20 years, Waterkeeper Alliance has patrolled and protected 2.5 million square miles of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways by connecting local Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates worldwide including Ottawa Riverkeeper and Lake Ontario Waterkeeper.  Ottawa Riverkeeper is a citizen-based action group and Waterkeep Alliance member whose mission is to protect the Ottawa River and ensure that it is safe for drinking and swimming.

"I am so very excited about this Friday's show for Stewart Jones, not only for his new series of works but because he and I share a passion for #swimdrinkfish," said Wall Space Gallery Director, Patricia Barr. "As a volunteer for Ottawa Riverkeeper and as a gallery director, nothing makes me more happy to see a convergence of these two parts of my life."

The fundraising soirée will feature craft beer flights from Midtown Brewing Company, direct from Prince Edward Country, and tasty bites from Chef Dave Neil of Ottawa's, The Piggy Market.

Jones will auction off one of his paintings inspired by our great river and all proceeds from the night will go to benefit Ottawa Riverkeeper’s initiatives.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will run until February 28, 2019. For more information about the exhibit and to learn more about the gallery visit wallspacegallery.ca.
