Cacao 70 - 51-53 William St. & 225 Marche? Way Unit #109
Do you love dark chocolate? Well, if it isn’t already, Cacao 70 should be your go-to spot when you feel that sweet tooth coming on! This café specializes in everything chocolate-y such as rich hot chocolate, fondue, chocolate-drizzled crepes and waffles, and a chocolate marshmallow pizza that is to DIE for. With two gorgeous locations in the city, one in the ByWard Market and one at Lansdowne, you have no excuse to not make this your next brunch or dessert stop!
Sweet Jesus - 97 Clarence St.
This Toronto import is known for their Instagram-worthy scoops of soft serve rolled in various elaborate and unique toppings like peanuts, crushed Oreos, cereal and much more. Cones are piled so high that they can topple over if you’re not careful. One thing’s for sure – they definitely think outside the box. Now, during the cooler season, is a great time to go since during the summer there is a line outside the door!
SuzyQ Doughnuts - 969 Wellington St W.
Doughnuts have been such a trendy dessert over the last couple of years and SuzyQ does them best. Their recipe is a fresh take on that of the traditional Finnish “Sugar Munkki.” Toppings range from the simple (chocolate, salted caramel) to the delectably ridiculous (blue vanilla fruit loop, spicy pineapple). You can even place an order online and have a fresh dozen delivered straight to your door.
Stella Luna Gelato Cafe - 1103 Bank St. & 1130 Wellington St. W.
Having been named one of the Top 3 Gelato Shops in The Americas at the 2016 Gelato World Tour, you could say that Master Gelato Chef and Stella Luna founder Tammy Giuliani knows her stuff. Trained at the finest school in Bologna, her gelato is made from scratch each day using only the freshest ingredients. You can also find their gelato cart traveling around the city.
Simply Biscotti - 354 Preston St. & 107 Colonnade Road Unit 5
Simply Biscotti founder Rosa Pino makes her dessert with a whole lot of love. While she is well known for (what else) her incredible authentic biscotti, she also bakes numerous other desserts and lunch dishes. Pair your sweet treat with a Lavazza coffee for a winning combination. They open early and close late – perfect for those after dinner cravings.
La Catrina Churros - 105 B Clarence St.
La Catrina is the only churro cafe in Ottawa making it a unique and special part of the city’s food scene. If you don’t know what churros are, you’re missing out! These Mexican fried doughnuts are both perfectly crispy and chewy and have just the right amount of sweetness. Order some with a side of thick Mexican hot chocolate for dipping, or order their Ice Cream Churro Bowl – a bowl-shaped churro served with ice cream drizzled with dulce de leche. Absolute heaven.
Chatime - 675 Somerset St. W. & 375 Dalhousie St.
Boy, are we happy that there is now not one, but TWO Chatime locations in Ottawa! There’s a lot of bubble tea options in the city, but Chatime is by far the best. With their wide selection of authentic, Taiwanese-style beverages, you will want to keep going back over and over again to try everything on the menu. If you thought bubble tea was just for the summertime, think again because most of their beverages can also be ordered hot! We recommend their signature Pearl Milk Tea to warm you up on a chilly day.
Nutella Café by Sobey’s - 193 Metcalfe St.
Thought Nutella was just for spreading over bread? Wrong! The Nutella Café, located in the Sobey’s grocery store on Metcalfe, brings this popular chocolate-hazelnut spread to the next level with their offerings of Nutella-filled crepes, Nutella hot chocolate, and various Nutella-based pastries like croissants, cakes, danishes and much more. With its orange and white decor and walls lined with jars of the heavenly substance, it’s essentially like you’ve died and gone to Nutella heaven!
Oh So Good Desserts - 25 York St. & 261 Richmond Rd.
Located in the ByWard market, Oh So Good is the perfect place to lounge and indulge. They serve pastries, pies, cookies and other baked goods which all taste heavenly. However, their specialty is definitely their delicious and decadent cakes, of which they have every flavour you can imagine. Supplement a slice with a steaming mug of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana Ltd - 200 Preston St.
This local café and pastry shop, operating in Little Italy since 1979, serves up a wide array of desserts that will satisfy any sweet tooth. Treats include Italian classics like cannoli siciliani and biscotti, as well as tarts, mousses, truffles and doughnuts. Wash it down with some high quality Italian coffee and you’re all set. Everything is made on-site and they create custom cakes upon request.
