Nearly a century ago, a group of artists travelled into northern Ontario and farther afield to capture the raw beauty that lay just beyond Canada’s towns and cities. Years later, while on a canoe trip, Jim and Sue Waddington located the spot of inspiration for one of A.Y Jackson’s paintings.

This sparked the beginning of their nearly four decades-long quests to find more landscapes immortalized by the Group of Seven and Tom Thompson. The retired couple's search began in the beautiful Killarney Provincial Park. They followed the painters throughout Ontario, to the east and west coasts of Canada, the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and finally to Nunavut.

Sue and Jim’s photographs were hung alongside the corresponding paintings and sketches by the Group of Seven at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario. Their book is an extension to the 2010 exhibition, representing the works from across Canada and bringing the reader to experience the breathtaking spots behind some of Canada’s best-known art.
