Celebrate Jane Austen in Perth tonight

There is no question Jane Austen fans were celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice in 2013. However, it’s not too late to tip your hat to the occasion. The play Elizabeth – Darcy: An Adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which had two successful Toronto runs, is in Perth tonight at the Georgian museum, Matheson House.

ElizDarcy-WEB-5365Elizabeth – Darcy features only two female cast members, Hallie Burt and Kate Werneburg. (Werneburg is an Ottawa native and graduate of Canterbury High School’s drama program.)

The ladies’ version takes a unique gender-bending twist to the novel. However, the spirit of Austen’s novel remains intact all the while playfully exploring the nature of love and gender both now and in 1813, when the novel was first published.

Be prepared to move around as the audience follows the action from room to room in the grand museum.

Tickets are $22.50. Call Matheson House 11 Gore E Perth, ON K7H 1H4, at 613-267-1947. The show starts at 8 p.m.
