Celebrate the Spring Season in Ottawa

Spring is finally here! Even though there is still snow on the ground for those of us in the National Capital Region, the temperature is slowly rising and nice weather finally feels around the corner after a quite brutal winter. Here are a few of the many sights and events to check out during the spring season here in Ottawa.

Poutine Fests

If you love poutine, spring time is the season for you as Ottawa hosts not one, but two poutine festivals during the season. The festivities kick off with PoutineFest on Sparks which runs from April 27th to April 30th along Sparks Street. The fun continues with Ottawa PoutineFest which is the following week, May 4th to May 7th, at Festival Plaza, at Ottawa City Hall. Both festivals will feature various poutine vendors, from both Canada and abroad, serving an assortment of different types of the Canadian staple. Ottawa Life is one of the official judges. YUM!

Canadian Tulip Festival

The tulip festival is one of Ottawa’s, and arguably one of Canada’s, most anticipated spring festivals. The annual event, which runs from May 12th to May 22nd this year, coincides with the blooming of the beautiful and colourful tulips across the National Capital Region. This year, in celebration of the festival’s 65th anniversary, there will be four sites for visitors to check out; Lansdowne Park Tulip Gallery, Commissioners Park Tulips, Byword Tulip Park(ing) and Tulips on the Garden Promenade.

Central Experimental Farm

The Central Experimental Farm is open year round, but spring time is an especially fun time to visit. This is the time of year when all the beautiful plants in the gardens and greenhouses will be blossoming, so it makes the perfect spring time photo op. Also, if you take a visit to the barns, where the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is located, you may get to see some adorable baby animals whom are usually born around this time of year!
