Ottawa Titans Water Polo Club U18 Men won gold at the 2014 National Club Championships, with a 7-4 victory over Vancouver’s Pacific Storm. This is the sixth National Title for the Titans.
Twenty-six teams and nearly 400 water polo athletes competed at the National Club Championships in Quebec City from May 8 to 11. The men’s teams showed off their skills at Laval University Pavillion de l’Éducation Physique et du Sport. The competition was fierce, with eight different teams winning the men’s tournament since 2004.
Eight minutes into their final game, the Titans looked to be in hot water with Pacific Storm leading by one goal. The Titans powered through and came back to lead with a score of 5-1 at halftime. In the end it was the Titans who took the title from defending champions, the Calgary Torpedoes.
As though a gold medal win was not big enough cause for celebration, the Titans U18 Men’s team continued to impress. Team member Euan Scoffield won Most Valuable Player of the men’s tournament after scoring five goals in the final game. Duncan Kennedy was named to the all-star team and Jerry Tesanovic won Most Valuable Coach.
The Ottawa Titans Water Polo Club began in 1984 and now hosts a wide range of programs – from recreational and developmental to competitive. The club promotes the importance of a healthy lifestyle and emphasizes no experience is necessary to join in on the water polo action. The club is ranked as one of the top four water polo clubs in Canada and is a part of Ontario Water Polo and Water Polo Canada.
