The "Ottawa Welcomes the World" event, which is a series of cultural fairs hosted at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park, continued this past weekend with a celebration of South Korea.

The fair, organized by the Korean Cultural Centre Canada and the Korean embassy, was a full day of everything K-culture. Everything from live performances to Korean food was there for guests to enjoy.

The event kicked off with words from the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Canada His Excellency Shin Maeng-Ho and Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson who expressed their excitement about the event.

"This event is just the tip of the iceberg of cultural events we have planned for this year," said His Excellency Shin, in reference to the summer-long K-Connected festival organized by the Korean Cultural Centre Canada.

The event ran the whole day and even the sudden rain storm couldn't stop the Horticulture Building from being packed with visitors. People young and old, and whole families, took in the various activities and spectacles.

Taking in a performance by Ottawa-based K-pop dance team Kapital K-Dance, participating in a hilarious spicy ramen eating contest, experiencing a traditional Korean wedding reenactment or trying out the various Korean snacks and drinks that were available to purchase were just a few of the many highlights of the day.

With the success of the fair and the vibrancy and excitement of Korean culture, we cannot wait to see what else the cultural centre has in store to share with the Ottawa community!
