The Old Man

I went for a walk today
Along a woodland path
When I met an old man
Looking at some flowers
Who turned to me to say
Why do the seasons come and go
For I love spring, summer and autumn
But not the winter’s snow
Once I was young like the buds of May
And carefree as a summer dove
When autumn brought its magic way
Then winters frost and I was grey
So now I walk along this path
Where time beguiles each familiar nook
And think of how my life has changed
Like pages from an ancient book
On lonely days when I cannot cope
These tiny flowers give me hope
With that the old man walked away
All four seasons in a single day.
