Oriental Legend – Thurs. Dec 18th – Sat. Dec 20th
Don’t miss the Canadian premiere of Oriental Legend, an award-winning dance drama presented by the China Arts and Entertainment Group (CAEG), and performed by the world-acclaimed Beijing Dance Drama & Opera Theatre, which takes the stage at the Canadian Museum of History for four performances only.
Set along the ancient Silk Road, Oriental Legend tells an epic story of courage, friendship, and cross-cultural harmony. The narrative centres on a 2,000-year-old archaeological artifact that serves as a gateway to the desert kingdom of Jingjue. There, a Han Dynasty general, the son of a northern tribal leader, and the daughter of Jingjue’s ruler overcome conflict to form an unbreakable bond—a timeless tribute to humanity’s shared longing for peace.
Infused with the grace of Han-Tang classical dance and the vibrant energy of Western Regions-inspired “Lantern Dance,” the production is a visual feast that captures the splendour of China’s ancient civilizations while embracing the spirit of multicultural artistry. Audiences experience a seamless fusion of history, movement, and emotion—brought to life by masterful dancers, stunning costumes, and immersive lighting and music. Oriental Legend’s theme song, “Don’t Forget Each Other”, performed by celebrated vocalists Ayanga and Tan Weiwei, adds a haunting layer of emotion to this breathtaking work.
Since its 2021 debut, Oriental Legend has become a cultural sensation, with more than 110 sold-out shows across China and over 600 million online views. It stands as a landmark in contemporary Chinese performing arts.
