Canada to Battle England in High‑Stakes Women’s Rugby Match at TD Place
Canada has proudly fielded a women’s team in every Women’s Rugby World Cup since the tournament began in 1991. Their breakout moment came in 2014, when they reached the World Cup final, falling just short to England’s Red Roses in an electrifying championship showdown. More history followed in September 2025. In what Rugby Canada called “one of the proudest chapters in Canadian rugby history,” Canada stunned New Zealand in the semifinals, earning a second World Cup final meeting with England—this time at Twickenham in London.
Before heading across the pond, TD Place Stadium saw a near‑capacity crowd — almost 11,500 fans — turn out to watch Canada’s national women’s rugby team take on Team USA. The August 1, 2025, match ended in a decisive Canadian victory, with the home side dominating the second half and running away with a 42–10 win.
On Friday, October 23, Ottawa fans will have the chance to see the world’s No. 1 women’s team, England, face Canada on home turf at the Rugby Rematch Tour, presented by Canadian Tire.
Reflecting on the atmosphere during last year’s Canada–USA match at TD Place, Rugby Canada CEO Nathan Bombrys said, “The last time we played here, the energy from over 11,000 fans created a truly special moment for our players as they prepared for the Rugby World Cup. That kind of support doesn’t just fill a stadium — it fuels performance.”
To put that in perspective, that crowd was the largest ever for a standalone women’s rugby match in North America. With that level of enthusiasm, tickets for the rematch are expected to go quickly. Fans are encouraged to register their interest at RugbyRematchTour.ca, where they can indicate preferred ticket options in advance. Tickets will be released in phases to ensure a smooth, more personalized purchasing experience, with registered fans receiving dedicated purchase windows as inventory becomes available.
At the press conference announcing the match, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe added, “This match is a chance to build on that momentum, bring our community together, and support some of the best athletes in the world. Ottawa is proud to be a place where women’s sport can thrive, and I know fans will once again create an unforgettable atmosphere.”
The Rugby Rematch Tour, presented by Canadian Tire, is part of the WXV Global Series, a World Rugby initiative designed to accelerate the growth of women’s rugby worldwide. The competition provides consistent international fixtures, deepens rivalries, and creates a clear competitive pathway toward the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
