Extreme Fear Hauntings Delivers Ottawa’s Scariest Halloween Thrills

Just south of Ottawa, I discovered the scariest place I have ever visited. No, I am not talking about Toronto; I am referring to Extreme Fear Hauntings.

Surrounded on three sides by a cemetery, Extreme Fear Hauntings has the perfect backdrop for a haunted attraction—it is something straight out of a horror movie. Fittingly, as we pulled into the parking lot, one of the vehicles parked near us was a hearse.

Extreme Fear Hauntings is set in a decommissioned school. After paying admission, we watched a short video going over all the rules. We were then greeted by a mysterious masked figure who directed us to the first attraction: a tent where we were immersed in fog and lasers.

The scary part happened once we entered the school. My wife and I held each other tightly. Without giving too much away, it was the most scared I have ever been in my life.

The attraction unfolds across distinct zones—a recreated church, an asylum, and a hotel—each packed with jump scares and unsettling décor. What struck me most was the incredible attention to detail; every room felt like stepping onto a movie set.

The actors also significantly contributed to the experience, providing plenty of scares, but were very respectful, not getting too close.

Some of the most frightening moments included being trapped in an elevator that did not seem to work quite right and navigating a winding maze in pitch darkness. The fear factor was increased by hearing the screams and shrieks of fellow customers throughout the building.

The scariest moment was being chased by a demented clown. It might sound strange, but I have had a real fear of clowns for a long time. You can imagine the movie. It has never been my favourite.

After braving the horrors inside the school, we were able to relax at the concession area, where popcorn, donuts, and other treats were waiting.

There are a couple of areas great for taking photos, including beside a headless horseman and a large ghoul in jail.

Everything at this attraction is executed to a very high standard; I guarantee that everyone will be scared.

Extreme Fear Hauntings is geared for those thirteen and up, but even within that age group, it may not be for everyone. As advertised, certain scenes are terrifying.

Extreme Fear Hauntings is located about forty-five minutes south of Ottawa along Highway 43 in Chesterville.
