Get Spooked in Style: Ottawa Pops Orchestra Plays Danny Elfman

Looking for a new way to get into the Halloween spirit? The Ottawa Pops Orchestra has you covered.

In keeping with the Halloween theme, the Orchestra will be performing The Music of Danny Elfman. Expect to hear pieces from movies like Beetlejuice,  The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.

Speaking with Pops Orchestra artistic director Mathieu Roy, his passion for Halloween is immediately clear. “Halloween is my Christmas,” said Roy. “Over the years, I think I have dressed up as almost every Tim Burton or Johnny Depp character imaginable: Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, the Mad Hatter. Programming this concert feels like a dream come true.”

Joining the orchestra is the Ewashko Singers, led by chorusmaster and music director  Laurence Ewashko, who is excited for the upcoming concert.

“The chorus in this program is almost a character of its own,” shared Ewashko. “Elfman uses the human voice to create atmosphere — to whisper, chant or burst into sound that feels alive.”

Those attending the concert can expect a laid-back vibe. Concert-goers are invited to come decked out in costumes. The bar will be open one hour before and after the performance with a spooky look fitting for the occasion.

All performances take place at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, with showtimes on October 17 at 7:30 pm, and on October 18 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
