Industry Leaders Rally Together to Support ALS Canada

Leaders from Ottawa’s business community participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challengeas part of Tech Tuesday at the Kanata Marshes to raise funds for ALS Canada.

ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a neurological disease which eventually leads to the loss of muscle movement and paralysis. With the help of the Ice Bucket Challenge, the association has raised $100-million in funds since it went viral in late July.

Those who bore the shock of icy water at Tech Tuesday were Sir Terry Matthews, high-tech mogul and founder of Wesley Clover International, Bruce Lazenby, president and CEO of Invest Ottawa and Debbie Weinstein, founding partner of LaBarge Weinstein LLP.

“We accepted the ALS Challenge and are pleased to support the cause. ALS is a very ugly illness that all of us should do our best to help eliminate. The worldwide campaign that the ALS Ice Challenge has become is a great example of how the power of modern communications can be exploited for important causes like this. We are happy to play our part in supporting the research needed to put an end to this disease, and also in passing on the ALS Challenge to even more Hi Tech execs!” said Weinstein, Lazenby and Matthews in a joint statement.
