Ontario’s iGaming Market Reaches Record Number of Players in February
February saw more Ontarians engaging with legal online gaming platforms than ever before, even as overall spending and operator revenue dipped slightly.
According to the February 2025 iGaming performance report released by iGaming Ontario (iGO) and analyzed by Casino Rewards Hub, the number of active player accounts climbed to 1,129, up from 1,105 in January. This is the highest monthly total on record since the market officially launched in April 2022.
Spending and Revenue Down Despite More Active Players
Although Ontario’s iGaming market welcomed more players in February, the total revenue and the amount wagered were slightly lower than the previous month’s record-setting figures. Experts say this kind of fluctuation is normal in a maturing market and doesn’t necessarily point to a slowdown.
After a strong start to the year, Ontario’s iGaming market experienced a decrease in both revenue and wagering activity in February. Total operator revenue fell to $280,100, down from $327,900 in January, while cash wagers dropped to $7.13 million, compared to $7.83 million the previous month.
This pullback follows January’s record-setting numbers and may reflect a natural adjustment in player spending after a peak period. Industry observers note that such month-to-month changes are common in a maturing market, particularly as player behaviour evolves and broader participation brings in more casual users.
Spending Per Player Declines as More Join In
One of the key trends in February was the drop in average revenue per player from $297 in January to $248. This number, known as ARPPA (Average Revenue Per Active Player Account), gives insight into how much each active player is contributing to the market.
The decrease in ARPPA is likely a result of more casual or first-time players entering the market. These users tend to bet less than more experienced or frequent players, which brings down the average, even though overall engagement is going up.
Long-Term Growth Tells a Different Story
While the month-over-month numbers dipped slightly, the long-term trends tell a story of strong, steady growth. When the market first launched in April 2022, the total revenue was $43,900, with just 277 active player accounts. By February 2025, revenue had grown to $280,100, and the number of active accounts had reached 1,129—more than four times the level at launch.
With over 50 licensed operators and 84 legal gaming sites, Ontario has built one of the strongest regulated iGaming markets in North America.
