Singer-songwriter Rachel Beck Set to Mesmerize Ottawa This Week

Canadian singer-songwriter Rachel Beck is having a pretty amazing 2019 so far! The Prince Edward Island-born musician kicked off the year by winning two PEI Awards and snagging two East Coast Music Association (ECMA) Awards.

Known for her gorgeous piano-pop melodies, these mark her first nominations as a solo artist, releasing her debut solo album last year after years in the industry as a member of The Beck Sisters, a duo with her sister Amy Beck.

Beck shows no signs of stopping any time soon. The musician is about to wrap up her Eastern Canada tour, but of course she couldn’t do so without hitting up the National Capital – she’ll be performing at LIVE! On Elgin this Friday, March 8!

If you’re new to Beck, check out her recently-released, mesmerizing rendition of Whitney Houston’s 1987 hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” The song trades in the original track’s fast-tempo, pop synths that we all know so well for a haunting, piano-driven melody which is just as captivating.

About the inspiration to put her unique spin on such an iconic track, Beck says “One day, this song danced across the airwaves as I was cooking supper…I had heard it a hundred times before, but I had never really paid attention to the lyrics. Suddenly, I was struck by the emotion of it. There is so much melancholy and longing behind those catchy pop beats.”
