Step Up, Ottawa! Join the Challenge to Become Canada’s Most Active City

From bike paths to nature trails, beaches, waterways, fields and courts, Ottawa residents love getting outside and staying active. This June, it’s time to prove it—and help crown Ottawa as Canada’s Most Active Community!

National Health and Fitness Day takes place on Saturday, June 7, kicking off a full month of activities tied to the ParticipACTION Community Challenge—a national campaign running from June 1 to 30. The community that logs the most activity will earn the title of Canada’s Most Active Community and win $100,000 to support local sport and physical activity programs.

Before you lace up your runners or unroll your yoga mat, be sure to sign up so your activity counts toward Ottawa’s total! Here’s how you can help Ottawa climb the national leaderboard:

As an Individual:
Visit the ParticipACTION website to pledge your support and commitment to staying active. You’ll receive a welcome email with ideas and resources to keep moving all month long. Don’t forget to spread the word to local sport and fitness organizations—every bit counts!

As an Organization:
Register on the ParticipACTION Community Challenge portal before June 30 to list your physical activity programs, events, or initiatives. Track the number of participants in each, and every entry gives your organization a shot at one of fifteen $500 cash prizes. Plus, the more participants you log, the closer Ottawa gets to winning the grand prize.

Get Involved All Month Long:
Enjoy a wide variety of activities, including:

• Free virtual Zumba
Free virtual ParticipACTION fitness classes

• Free drop-in recreation and sports for children and youth at City facilities
• A free fitness pass with three visits to City fitness centres, group classes, pools and rinks
Yoga and pilates at Lansdowne Park and City Hall
Drop-in swimming, sports and fitness programs
Ottawa’s outdoor spaces
The Capital Pathway network

Every pledge and every tracked participant between June 1 and 30 brings us one step closer to national victory. When you take part, you’re contributing to a stronger, healthier, more active Ottawa—this June and beyond.

Let’s do this, Ottawa. Let’s get into ParticipACTION!
