The Ocean Wise Sea Dome is Back on The Road Delivering Ocean Education

This summer Ocean Wise is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the ocean to Canadian communities for the second year in a row. After visiting Alberta and Saskatchewan last year, Ocean Wise is heading further east to bring its Sea Dome summer tour to communities, schools, and camps across Manitoba and Ontario.

The Ocean Wise Sea Dome is an immersive pop-up ocean adventure. A planetarium-style six-metre dome, the sea dome projects a full 360-degree presentation of 4K cinematic footage of the ocean and its creatures.

Ocean Wise works to transport youth under the sea while teaching them about ocean conservation, climate change, and fascinating marine animals by showcasing aquatic artifacts and providing hands-on interactive activities. Over the Summer of 2023, the informative Ocean Wise team will visit schools and camps in Winnipeg, Sault Ste. Marie, Ottawa, and Thunder Bay. The organization will also host several public events, similar to their June 8th World Ocean Day celebration at the Toronto Reference Library.

Last year’s tour through Western Canada was a 16-week road trip through 17 communities, allowing Ocean Wise to reach 6000+ campers and students, sparking 13 000+ community conversations, and making quite the impact. “The health of the ocean impacts the health of the entire Earth – and our waterways are profoundly interconnected,” said Mercedes Bosch Toca, Ocean Wise Mobile Program Manager, “By visiting communities throughout Canada, we aim to create a lasting connection to our ocean to encourage passion and care for the environment. Look out for the Sea Dome this summer!”

The Ocean Wise Sea Dome is part of Ocean Wise’s mobile programs and a part of Waves of Change, a youth action and climate change initiative coalition. Organizations Ocean Wise, GreenLearning, TakingITGlobal, and the Centre for Global Education comprise Waves of Change, which the Government of Canada funds.
