Whitewater Brewing Co. — Brewed by friends for friends

It all began with three good friends on an adventure. While kayaking and rafting in the Grand Canyon, the idea struck them around a campfire; why not create a sustainably brewed, locally sourced brewery at home in the Ottawa Valley. The friends went to work retrofitting an old dairy barn and spent two years raising money and developing recipes for their brewery. In 2013, Whitewater Brewery opened its doors and sold its first growler.

Whitewater Brewing Co. has a genuine commitment to producing high-quality products. They feel a strong responsibility to community, not just to the small one within the brewery bounds, but the broader community as well. They support local business, and almost every ingredient that goes into their product is Canadian. Not only that, but the brewery prides itself on what it does for the environment. They use low impact hydro energy to offset their electrical use, and anything they use to fire up the ovens in their pub is offset by a unique methane capture system offered by Bullfrog Power. “We have a steadfast commitment to the community, both here and the larger Canadian community, by choosing to thrive as a business while protecting our natural resources,” says marketing manager Tristan Weedmark.

Whitewater Brewing Co. has a contagious atmosphere. “It’s hard not to leave with a smile,” says Weedmark. The combination of well-brewed beer, locally sourced food and positive atmosphere gives the staff and visitors a reason to smile. One of their most beloved beers is Farmers Daughter Blonde Ale, a light yet defined and flavourful ale. It’s their best selling beer, mostly because it appeals to all beer drinkers alike. “It bridges the gap between craft beer drinkers and non-craft beer drinkers,” explains Weedmark. Another one of their beers has a new twist. Their Peanut Butter Shake is a peanut butter stout that has flavours reminiscent of a peanut butter malted milkshake. It has hints of cream and caramel, and they promise that this medium-bodied sweet stout will remind you of a peanut butter chocolate shake. “It has been quite popular this season,” exclaims Weedmark. “It’s very nostalgic, the adulthood version of a childhood favourite.”

Follow Whitewater Brewing Co. on social media, and check out their merch on their website. “Come visit us for holiday presents!” suggests Weedmark. They have a wide variety of beers that can be purchased at the brewery, The Beer Store, LCBO, licensed grocery stores, and on tap all over Ontario. You can also buy their beer online at their website.

Whitewater Brewing Co. has two brew pubs that you can enjoy, one in Cobden, ON (Lakeside) and another that is open seasonally during the summer months in Forester Falls, ON (Riverside). Be sure to check them out for a beer you won’t forget!
