Fluxtime: Enriched Bread Artists’ annual open studio

When you hear the name Enriched Bread Artists, your first thought might be a bakery. However, Enriched Bread Artists (EBA) is actually a multivalent collective of diverse Ottawa artists! This collective takes its name from the fact that the cooperatively run studio group is located in a former bread factory. EBA is an art studio and an artistic laboratory.

It’s been a busy year for EBA, with various events to ensure the flow of intriguing artists and art professionals through their doors. Local artists — photographer Ruth Steinberg and painter Scott Harber — had solo exhibitions. EBA had a panel discussion on printmaking mediated by Pat Durr and a book launch for the Bouquiniste Mobile project curated by Michael Davidge. EBA also welcomed artists Natasha Keating and Asinnajaq during the Asinabka Festival and partnered with Little Berlin Artists Cooperative in Philidelphia where the artwork of 12 EBA members was showcased. All through the year, EBA has made itself available for the people of Ottawa and beyond to come and experience local art and culture.

Right now, EBA is in full planning mode for their Annual Open Studio, called Fluxtime. From from October 18 to the 27, this will be their twenty-seventh year of opening their doors and their studios to the public as a way to present contemporary art and demystifying the process for a general audience. Housing 22 artists working in diverse media, including painting, drawing, photography, textiles, sculpture, digital and mixed media, the event will be full of excitement for art lovers and curious locals.

Through generous financial assistance from loyal sponsors, they are excited to present Fluxtime and many other of their free events to the public.

Enriched Bread Artists believe that their longstanding success as a self-sustaining, not-for-profit organization, demonstrates that the people of Ottawa value and support local culture. Every year they welcome a new generation of people who are curious about the world of art and artists’ studios.
