Fool’s Gold

The silhouette of a witch
And the shriek of a bat
Conjures up ghostly spirits
And the blackest of cats

This dark night of fear
Sends terror to all
But the fright is the worst
On a late night in fall

For Halloween’s the time
To play trick or treat
And to weigh the kindness
Of each person you meet

If your host was the devil
Would you barter your soul
Or sell off another’s
If he offered you gold

Tonight no service is rendered
Nor bargain tendered
When the motive is greed
And the devils the vendor

For to forfeit one’s soul
Would I’ve been told
Drive a man crazy to learn
He sold it for fool’s gold.
