Indie-Pop Duo Making Their Mark in Canada

Indie sensation the Heathers will perform songs from their recent album starting at 10:30pm on Thursday June 27th at Café Dekcuf on Rideau Street. The alternative pop duo, which is growing in popularity in Canada, consists of twin sisters from Dublin. Garnering widespread acclaim internationally among fans and media for their unique melodic beats and dynamic vocals, the Heathers’ performance at Café Deckuf will be a show that indie-lovers will not want to miss. Admission is $12 at the door. Peas and Carrots and Those Gulls are the warm-up acts.

HeathersSisters Ellie and Louise Macnamara of the Heathers have been described as “Tegan & Sara meets Walk Off The Earth”. Although the girls are new to the music scene, they have already made their mark in Ireland and are expected to become popular among indie-fanatics in North America. Fans are drawn to their catchy harmonies, which are made memorable by their audible Irish accents and infectious lyrics.

Currently collaborating with big artists such as Cee Lo Green and David Guetta, the Heathers released their debut album – Here, Not There – in 2010, spent two summers touring the United States and performing at various festivals around the world such as Canadian Music Week in Toronto and The Great Escape in Brighton.  Heathers

The Heathers’ most recent album, Kingdom, features one of their most popular songs: Forget Me Knots (dig the Joycean play on words) and was released through Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc. In April, this uplifting single was chosen for the national campaign in Ireland called Cycle Against Suicide as a hopeful track that helps depressed teens and young adults choose life.

With the success of their current album and positive feedback from music critics, the Heathers are expected to follow in the footsteps of international folk groups like Mumford & Sons. According to Much Music, “If you haven’t heard about Heathers from your friends yet, you soon will.”
