Playing it safe, how to keep your family safe during COVID 19

As we are trying to return to work, school and our everyday lives, it is important to protect everyone in the family, from the youngest generation to the oldest.

The best way to keep your family safe is to teach and reinforce everyday preventive actions. Here are a few of the best practices to keep your family safe during COVID 19.

Practice Social Distancing

This can often be a tough rule to impose in the family home, as humans we naturally crave human contact, this is often especially the case with grandparents and their grandchildren. To ensure the safely of your family it is best to avoid close contact with those who do not live with them and especially anyone who is sick.

Wear A Mask

Make sure that everyone, over the age of 2, wears a mask when in public and around those who do not live in your household. Ensuring that your child wears it safely can be a bit tricky, luckily, there are these snazzy, face masks for kids are both comfortable and effective.

Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands with sope and water for approximately 20 seconds, this includes every time you enter the home and use the bathroom. If you are out and about, use hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol.

While being healthy won’t prevent you from getting sick, by encouraging and maintaining healthy habits to boost your immune system, your recovery may be easier. The following measures should help you to keep your family healthy.

Physical Activity and Excercise

Practice outdoor family activities, this could be kicking the ball around, going for a bike ride or hike, not only will you get some exercise in but also get Vitamin D which is vital for our immune system. Remember though, to maintain social distancing when outside the home. You can also do some physical activity at home, there is an abundance of classes online, with yoga, pilates at HITT.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

With lockdowns, it has been easy to take the easy option and order takeaway, but it is important to keep a healthy diet, full of the vitamins and nutrients vital to boost immune systems and fight disease.

Monitor Your Family’s Heath

To avoid the spread of COVID, it is important to detect any symptoms at the early stags, so you can isolate the disease as soon as possible to stop the spread. The COVID symptoms are fever, cough, sore throat, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue and body aches, vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty breathing.

If you suspect you or your family have contracted COVID, seek medical advice.

Monitor Your Family’s Mental Heath

Along with protecting your families physical health, it is important that you monitor their mental health. Social distancing has caused us to have a lack of human interaction, massive changes to our schedules, along with the anxiety that comes with the disease and potential deaths of friends, family and acquaintances. It is important to monitor mental health, and put in place coping mecanisms.
