Canada Take on England in the Arnold Clark Cup

The first ever Arnold Clark Cup takes place in England this month. There will be plenty of betting opportunities available for this women’s football tournament. Canada will be facing hosts England, Germany, and Spain.

You can bet on this being an exciting tournament. All four countries are currently in the top ten of the world rankings. Germany are the highest ranked side, currently sitting in third position. Canada are the sixth ranked side, ahead of England in eighth and Spain, one position below the hosts.

Canada will be out to win the Arnold Clark Cup to add to their Olympic title. Oh, if you’re wondering just who Arnold Clark is, that’s the name of the car dealer company sponsoring the event. If you want to bet on sport, claiming the bet365 bonus is a good idea.

Canada will look to build on a successful 2021. They finished in third place in the She Believes Cup and then headed to the delayed Tokyo Olympics. Those betting on Canadian success were to be delighted when Canada won the Gold Medal, after claiming Bronze in the previous two Olympic tournaments.

Betting on Canada to win was a good one to make. Placing bets on them to win their individual matches in 90 minutes wasn’t with that achieved just one in six games.

The Canadian team didn’t get off to the best of starts in that tournament. They finished second behind Great Britain, with their only win being against Chile with Janine Beckie scoring both goals. They drew 1-1 with Great Britain but had to thank a Nichelle Prince own goal for their point.

It was a bit of a struggle in the quarter finals too. They drew 0-0 with Brazil but won a penalty shootout. In the last four, Canada beat the USA 1-0 thanks to a Jessie Fleming penalty. Fleming scored from the penalty spot again in the final. That ended 1-1 with Sweden and Canada won the Gold Medal by winning the penalty shootout.

Since that triumph, Canada have played four friendlies. Those who want to bet on Fleming scoring a penalty continue to do well. The Chelsea player opened the scoring in that fashion as Canada beat New Zealand 5-1 last October. Adriana Leon scored twice in that match in an easy home win.

The two countries played again just four days later It was a good idea again to bet on Leon to score as the West Ham player scored the only goal in the game. That extended Canada’s unbeaten run to 12 games. 13 was an unlucky number though as they lost 1-0 in Mexico last November. Three days later, they played again but this time drew 0-0.

Now they head to England to play in the Arnold Clark Cup. Squads have been named and Canada will be without captain Christine Sinclair due to a family bereavement.

Antoine Coupland is also not in the squad. They begin their campaign with a match against the hosts. That’s followed by a match against Germany three days later, before taking on Spain on February 23.

It’s an important tournament with Canada preparing for the upcoming CONCACAF Women’s Championship. Their opponents here will be getting ready for the 2022 European Championships. England will be hosting that event in July, so both they and Canada will be out to get some wins in the Arnold Clark Cup.

The English side do not have a good record against Canada. They last met Canada last April and it didn’t take long for their opponents to take the lead. Sportsbooks fancied Canada and they took the lead through Evelyne Viens after just three minutes. The 1-0 lead was kept until the 86th minute when Nichelle Prince added a second goal.

You can bet that England will be out for some revenge on February 17. Canada also beat them in 2019 and you must go back to the 2015 Women’s World Cup for the last time England beat the Canadians.

England won the She Believes Cup in 2019 and finished fourth in the Women’s World Cup held later that year. Canada let down those who had bet on them by losing in the last 16.

Since the loss to Canada last year, England have been playing World Cup qualifiers. Betting on them winning to nil has come up in the six games played between September and November of 2021. Aside from a 1-0 home win over Austria, it’s been a goalfest against lower ranked teams.

52 goals were scored in five games, including a 20-0 home win over Latvia (who they’d beaten 10-0 away) with three players scoring hat-tricks. Hardly anything in betting is a certainty but when England take on Canada later this month, you can be guaranteed that the match will be a lot closer than their recent games.
